Kali King Rooftop Tent: The foldout that fits a family.

Foldout rooftop tents earn their fans for one reason: more sleeping space per inch of roof footprint. But the tradeoff is usually the shell. Most foldout competitors protect their designs with fiberglass or fiber-reinforced plastic — materials that flex under road vibration, develop stress cracks at hardware points and corners over time, and require gelcoat maintenance to stay sealed. Aluminum doesn't. The Kali King's hard shell won't crack, won't blister, and won't need resurfacing after a few seasons of hard use. And at 72" of interior width when deployed, it's one of the few foldout hard shells on the market that genuinely sleeps three adults or a family of four — without asking anyone to compromise.

KALI!!!!

Picked this tent up at the perfect time. Got it just as the price shot down. Just happened to be going thru Springdale Arkansas to pick it up. The guys in the shop were way cool and eager to help get me going. Have since installed it. Have had so many rainy days and cold mornings. I've slept in it every weekend for the last 3 weeks. Not a drop of rain inside the tent. Mind you have had wind gusts of 35 mph. I slept sound and dry. Down side/plus side depending on how you look at it. When you close up all windows. You'll have no idea that the sun has come up.

This is the 2nd FSR tent I have purchased. The first was a Nova and I drove up to FSR's shop to have it installed and meet the crew which was really cool. I loved that tent as it was warm, well built and over the years only had minor issues with it.

I needed a bigger tent and so after looking at the market decided the Kali King would be my next upgrade. I'll start with the positives. It came with storage cover, was packed well, and shipping was easy. Install was pretty painless and set up is awesome. It performs great in the 2x I've used it so far, has a ton of room, doesn't add a ton of road/wind noise, and is completely self contained so no need to tote around extra stuff.

That said, there's some bad parts. 1) it's drafty!! with my old tent I would be stripping layers in the winter because it got so warm, but with the Kali King I was bundled up all night and trying to find holes to stuff in 40 degree temps. 2) The support wires arrived loose :/ on either side of the fold out there are aircraft cables that support the weight on the tongue of the platform, these arrived loose and at varied length and I had to adjust them and tighten them back down myself. 3) The mattress is pretty hard, I know this is a personal thing, but I'll probably have to replace the mattress or add some sort of topper as the current mattress is like sleeping on aged/dried out foam. 4) And finally, less about the tent and more about FSR. I had 2 bolts break durning install, no big deal I was able to get it put on and fixed with some minor tweaks. The real issue is that when I contacted FSR I expected a 'sorry to hear that let us send you out some replacements to make sure you're taken care of', but instead was given links to their shop to buy more hardware. It was pretty disappointing and I still ended up paying shipping on what should have been a simple warranty/customer support request. You're selling top of the line products and customers should have a similar top of the line support experience, not get nickel and dimed when your stuff breaks.

Kali King

The Kali King is a luxurious tent. Plenty of space for sleeping and also plenty of headroom. Highly recommended. However if on an suv there’s quite a bit of wind noise. But that’s to be expected.

Freespirit knocked it out of the park! I had a few questions about the product, mainly about crossbars. I received a reply within the day and had a great conversation with the representative. Fantastic customer service and have no doubt that FSR will support me throughout the ownership of my tent. The tent itself is excellent. Very comfortable mattress and ample storage for all my bedding. Mounted over a 5' bed of my 24 tacoma, it fit perfectly with no overhang. Durable zippers on every flap and it is dark as night within the tent with every shade drawn. Very impressed with the attention to detail and quality of the tent. Looking foward to purchasing more FSR products and getting crossbars put on when they're developed for the Kali!

The Kali King rooftop tent is an amazing tent it’s even more spacious when you open it up. The mattress is comfortable. I currently sleep on a Tempur-pedic mattress with medium density and I personally feel adding the FSR cloud topper on top of this mattress would make it perfect. The tent is complete blackout, which is an upgrade for me and it ventilates and insulates well. I definitely cannot wait to go camping again, but the tent is well constructed and easy to set up. I am able to store my bedding inside the tent, but not my pillows.

Setting up the tent is easy unless you have it mounted on a camper shell like I do it does require the use of a small ladder just because of the height if the tent was lower, set up and breakdown would be under a minute however, that is just my Truck RT combo set up, nothing a small 2 foot ladder can’t fix

Kali

I’ve been using the Kali rooftop tent for a few trips now, and it’s been a game changer for camping. Setup is fast and straightforward — I can be fully set up and settled in under 5 minutes. The materials feel durable and weather-resistant, and it’s handled wind and rain without any issues.

The mattress is surprisingly comfortable for a rooftop tent, and there’s plenty of space inside for two people and gear. Ventilation is excellent with multiple windows, and the views from up top are unbeatable.
