RTT Car Series: Best Jeep Rooftop Tents

RTT Car Series: Best Jeep Rooftop Tents

Jeeps are the ultimate off-roading vehicle and any off-roading vehicle is not complete without a rooftop tent. Picking the right rooftop tent for your Jeep comes with a lot of factors – the type of Jeep you have being the first one.

Our rooftop tents work on all Jeeps, but this list is focused on our two most common Jeep customers — Jeep Wranglers and Jeep Gladiators.

We know finding the perfect rooftop tent for your setup is important. Below you will find options for Jeep rooftop tents for both Wranglers and Gladiators with any information to put your concerns at ease.

Best Rooftop Tents for Jeep Wranglers

When choosing a roof top tent for a Jeep Wrangler, you must start with your roof rack set up. There are actually many different options for Wrangler —  even if you have a soft top.

For hard top Jeep Wranglers, you can use crossbars or a platform rack. For soft top Jeep Wranglers, many customers use the Barricade Jeep Rack — or a similar style rack from a different brand. This rack acts almost like a cage around a Jeep so removing the soft top is still possible. For more information on roof racks, check out our roof rack guide.

Once you have a rack solution figured out, now begins figuring out which roof top tent is best for your Jeep. With our rooftop tents, anything can actually work on a Jeep Wrangler, what it really comes down to is how it looks aesthetically. Below we’ve listed our recommendations for the best setups for Jeep Wranglers.

Evolution 49”

The Evolution 49” looks great on Jeep Wranglers. The 49” size is good for 2-door Wranglers because it avoids any tent hangover from the sides or back.

The Evolution is one of our bestsellers for its quick set-up. Four gas struts allow for the Evolution to pop up quickly and simply. Plus – the Evolution is part of our hardshell series tents, which allows for storage on the top of the tent with crossbars.

Odyssey 49”

The Odyssey 49” is similar to the Evolution 49” in size, so extra hangover off the sides won’t be an issue once again. The Odyssey is different from the Evolution in that the Odyssey folds down to just 7 inches

Our most aerodynamic tent also comes with mountable side-rails for gear. Including crossbars and our awning bracket specifically designed for the Odyssey or Evolution. Fold up easily with two gas struts, the Odyssey is a fan favorite.

High Country 63”

The High Country 63” is a really good size for a Jeep Wrangler. If you don’t mind losing some aerodynamics in exchange for some extra sleeping space, this is a perfect roof top tent for your set up.

The High Country 63” folds to just 63” x 49” when closed, but when opened the sleeping space is just a bit bigger than a queen size mattress. With such a small footprint on your Jeep but a large sleeping space, the 63” is ideal for those looking to spread out.

Best Rooftop Tents for Jeep Gladiators

Determining which rooftop tent is best for your Jeep Gladiator comes down to your truck bed rack set up. There are a few different setups for your rooftop tent on a truck — in the bed but above the cab, in the bed but below the cab, or even on the truck cab itself.

The rooftop tent you choose for your setup also comes down to your style preferences for your Jeep Gladiator. Some like the look of this tent within the truck and some like it above the cab. Below we’ve laid out our recommendations for all styles.

High Country 55”

The High Country 55” is great if you are looking to have your tent sit in your truck below the cab. The truck bed length of Jeep Gladiators is roughly 60”, so the High Country 55” can sit within the bed perfectly.

The High Country 55” has a great stow to sleep ratio, meaning when folded on top of your vehicle it takes up very little space, but when set up it’s bigger than a full size mattress. Perfect for about two people.

Our premium High Country 55” comes with our signature tri-layer fabric, which acts as insulation for your tent. We sonic-welded three layers of moisture-wicking fabric to keep you cozy like a puffy parka.

Aspen 55”

The new addition to our hardshell line up, The Aspen 55” is great for truck beds. The Aspen works for above cab racks — it’s a little too long to sit within the truck bed itself.

This clamshell rooftop tent allows you the flexibility to get in either from the side or the back. This means you would be able to hop into your tent right from the tailgate.

The Aspen is similar to both our Evolution and Odyssey in that you can store gear on top or on the side through side channels. Folding down to just 7 inches, the Aspen allows for great aerodynamics while driving.

High Country 80”

The High Country 80” is very similar to our other High Country Series tents, except the 80” folds out much bigger. The High Country 80” also only works well if placed on a rack that goes above the cab.

Our High Country 80” folds down to only 80” x 49” when closed, when opened it’s 98” x 80”, making this tent bigger than a king sized bed

Just like our other premium tents, the High Country 80” comes with all our premium features. Tri-layer fabric makes for a cozy night's sleep and the LED light strip helps easily light up the night.
